The garter toss dates back to the fourteenth century but I'm not letting the husband toss the garter holding up my stocking or my silk stocking itself so I made a simple modern style wedding garter. I plan to slip in on shortly before he removes it for the toss.
Step 1. with a bit of elastic wrap it around the smallest part of your knee un-stretched and cut it to this size. alternatively you can wrap it around the part of you leg you wish to wear it and take 2 in off the assure it stays up.
Step 2. Cut your ribbons 3 X the size of the elastic
Step 3. Line the small ribbon down the middle of the large ribbon then on the back side of the large ribbon sew the elastic band own the middle. Make sure the elastic is stretched as far as it can go so it will reach the end of the ribbon. then sew ends together making sure your garter is not twisted.
Step 4 arrange your feathers or flowers how you want them
Step 5. hot glue feathers or hand stitch flowers over your garters seam.
Step 6. check to make sure it fits where you wish to wear it.
and enjoy

1940's Wedding photos
All photos are from 1940-1952 I think. Over the next few months I'll be posting mostly about DIY 1940's wedding projects. As you could guess I'm having a 1940's styled wedding. Much like most the women in the 40's my man is deployed and we may not have rationing but live on a tight budget in order to live debt free. We will start by posting these photos and tomorrow I'll have our first DIY project.
